To find the best area service professional, a consumer first submits a brief description of his or her service need by answering a series of questions in a ServiceMagic interview. This interview not only helps us understand your expectations, but it lets you look carefully at all the parts of your need.

ServiceMagic then matches your specific need with the defined skills of a select group of service professionals. The result is a match between the right consumer and the right service professional.

Am I obligated to use ServiceMagic professionals?
No. We provide professionals matched to your need and interested in your job, but the final choice is up to you.

How do I know I'm getting the right service professional?
ServiceMagic's service professionals are thoroughly screened before being included in our network so you can be confident in your selection. You can also use profile information and Ratings & Reviews from past customers to help decide who's best for you. Our mission is to create a better connection between the right consumer and the right service professional. We want you to get your job done right!

What is the Service Guarantee?
At ServiceMagic, we want you to be satisfied when you submit a request for any home improvement, repair or maintenance task. All we ask is that you let us know who you hire, and how your project is going. When you're ready. Since it's hard for us to know exactly when your job is done, we may ask you to submit your Ratings & Reviews before you're ready. You can always visit the Web site to close your job and complete your Ratings & Reviews at that time.

    What if I change my mind during a project and want to cancel a contract?
    The decision to stop a project will have to be worked out between you and the service professional. Expect to pay for work and materials performed up to that point. We ask that you remember to come back to our Web site to complete your Ratings & Reviews survey.

    What can I do to maintain the high level of service that ServiceMagic service professionals provide?
    Complete your Ratings & Reviews survey! This short survey provides great feedback for other consumers and also for service professionals (so they can continue to offer exceptional value). Of course, we would love to hear from you at any time with compliments, comments, or concerns… so don't be a stranger!

    Will ServiceMagic cancel a service professional's member status upon receiving a customer complaint?
    Your feedback is vital to the quality of service our member professionals provide. However, as with any grievance process, we first evaluate both sides of the story before making a final decision. Often, an unpleasant experience is the result of a simple misunderstanding between the two parties. However, if there is a negative trend against the service professional, we do reserve the right to remove a service professional from our network.

    What criteria is a service professional required to meet to become a member of the ServiceMagic network?
    ServiceMagic Service Professionals undergo a rigorous 10-Point Screening before they are accepted in to our network and matched to homeowners.
    1. Verify State-Level Trade License
    2. Verify Insurance
    3. Verification of State Business Filings
    4. Criminal Records Search
    5. Sex Offender Search
    6. Bankruptcy Search
    7. Legal Search for Civil Judgments
    8. Liens Search
    9. Identity Verification (SSN)
    10. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup)

    Note: Member service professional information confirmed as described above may change or expire over time; while ServiceMagic attempts to maintain accurate and up-to-date information, and confirms changes when notified, we cannot guarantee that profile and screening information is accurate.     What is your screening process for a member to become ServiceMagic Certified?
    To be ServiceMagic Certified, a member service professional must meet all the requirements for basic membership. In addition, they must have a minimum of three satisfied customer ratings from current ServiceMagic customers.



    PRICING

    How does ServiceMagic get paid if this is a free service?
    You are not charged for this service because service professionals pay advertising fees to participate in ServiceMagic's network. Service professionals specify the type of work they do and the geography they serve. ServiceMagic provides new customer leads that match these requests and service professionals pay a fee for each lead they receive. These fees do not affect your estimate.

    What can consumers do to make sure they don't pay too much for their home services projects?
    Pay close attention to bids and contracts. It is your responsibility as a customer to get bids, and all prices should be clearly stated on contracts. If something is unclear to you, ask questions.
